Why do we have family portraits? There are lots of reasons; they freeze our family at a point in time so that we can look back at them remembering how things were. They emphasise to our children that they are indeed part of a strong team, their family. They can be taken to celebrate a particular event, for example, just before a daughter gets married or on the day of a Christening. They are special photographs; an investment that can be passed from one generation to the next. Being a photographer allows me to have the privillege to create these images for families and it's very rewarding to see their faces when they receive their portraits.
When you arrive at the studio we need to discuss the kind of pictures you want to acheive. After we have finished discussing the photo shoot, the pictures you'd like to create and where you are considering displaying them, you can have a look at the framing options and canvases that are on display in the studio for some further inspiration.
Once we have concluded our conversation, it's time for you all to spring into action; it's worth checking clothing (no labels popping out of collars), adjusting hair if necessary, wiping noses, etc. Everything should now be set for the start of the shoot.
When we start the shoot, I will ask family members to step onto the stage area (a raised area where subjects pose for their pictures). I will gradually build the group asking individuals to turn this way of that way, tilt your head etc, I'll be taking pictures along the way. We will of course include a sequence of shots for each grouping that you requested or that would otherwise make sense.
When I am sure we have got a suitable selection of photographs, we will finish the shoot and make an appointment for you to return to view the images.
I process the images and make an initial selection of the best pictures. When this is completed, I will contact you to confirm your next appointment back at the studio for the viewing, the appointment is usually about a week after the photo shoot.
Sit back on the sofa as I dim the lights and start a slide show of your pictures. Your photographs will be projected in the studio for your viewing and selection.
When the slide show is over, we will go through the pictures and you can select your favourites!
There are framed prints and canvases to consider. My frames are all hand made and are of the finest quality components, acid free mounts are used so that there is no discolouration over time. Canvases are of gallery quality and are made to last.
