Children's Portrait Photographer: What to expect at your shoot

When should we come for a photo shoot?

There are lots of events in your children's lives that make fantastic memories worth capturing on a photograph.Children posing

  • Their first day at school
  • When there's a new arrival to the family, capture those early interactions
  • Birthdays
  • Christmas costumes - Christmas Angels, Reindeer, Little Santa's etc
  • Wearing Christening outfits
  • A picture of your children can make a great birthday present from their mum!

Children grow up so quickly, in the blink of an eye they need bigger clothes, another blink and they are off to the next school - so why wait, you don't want to miss capturing those treasured expressions and developing personalities.

What should my child and I expect at a photo shoot?

Fun, fun, fun! I will try to make the photo shoot as enjoyable as possible, there won't really be too much direction from me, just some general suggestions to your child.

Girl dancingWhen you arrive, we will spend time talking about what kind of photographs you would like and where you are thinking of displaying them; you can have a look at the framing options and canvases that are on display in the studio for some ideas. After we have concluded our conversation, it's time for your child to jump into action (if they haven't already), it's worth checking their clothing (no labels popping out of collars etc), adjusting hair if necessary and wiping noses, then everything should be set for the start of the shoot.

Many children find the experience (as long as it isn't kept to long) a fun time, there will be some lively, energetic background music and I will encourage your child to try different things; star jumps, looking through their legs, playing boo, catching bubbles. Some youngsters enjoy creating their own poses, one young lady pretended to be John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, copying all his dance moves!

Often, children will want to see the the results of their efforts there and then. It's not a problem, they are very welcome to have a look at the camera's LCD screen before we move on to the next set of shots.

When I am sure we have got a suitable selection of photographs, we will finish the shoot and make an appointment for you to return to view the images.

What happens after my shoot?

I process the images and make an initial selection of the best pictures. When this is completed, I will contact you to confirm your next appointment back at the studio for the viewing, the appointment is usually about a week after the photo shoot.

Tell me about the viewing

Sit back on the sofa as I dim the lights and start a slide show of your pictures. Your photographs will be projected in the studio for your viewing and selection.

There are framed prints, canvases and multi-image options to consider. The multi-image product is a great way to display a group of pictures from your shoot, especially if you are finding it difficult to decide which photographs to have.

My frames are all hand made and are of the finest quality components, acid free mounts are used so that there is no discolouration over time.
