Berkhamsted mum, Hilary and her newest family addition, Tilly, visited the studio for a portrait shoot this morning. Tilly’s older brother and sister had Cherub photos taken when they were young and Hilary wanted something similar for this cute little lady.

After mum and I had discussed the shoot, off came Tilly’s clothes and she got comfortable in front of the camera. Here are a selection of shots from the session.

This weekend, Berkhamsted couple Tom and Louise visited the studio with their lovely children; Isabella and newborn Harry. You would never have known that Louise had recently given birth – she looked fantastic and not even a little bit tired!

Baby Harry - 5 weeks old

Izzy who is a very mature and chatty 2 1/2 years old, decided that the garden was more enticing than the studio. One of the advantages of being home based, with the studio set in the garden is that it’s relaxed and informal and of course, visitors to the studio are welcome to play, run around and burn off their excess energy, their children can also do the same . Izzy took full advantage,  playing on the slide, scooting around and exploring the toy house whilst mum, dad and baby Harry posed for in front of the lens.

Harry at 3 weeks

Today I met a beautiful young family from Radlett. Dan, Karen and their gorgeous newborn baby Harry arrived at the studio this morning for a portrait shoot. Harry was very sweet and had a sparkle in his eyes.

After a short chat about the shoot, clothes and a look at some possible poses, we commenced the shoot. We spent about 60% of the time with a high key set up, white background and soft lighting. Once that part was completed, and after Harry filled his tummy, we swapped over to a black background and more directional lighting.

I hope mum and dad like these early pictures, they’re hot off the press. Dan is heading overseas very soon for work and so I’m working hard on post-processing all the images from the shoot so we can be ready for a viewing before he leaves.

Sweet young lady!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting a family from Harpenden, Sam and Darren brought their 7 month old daughter and Sam’s parents to the studio for some family portraits.

Baby Emily was so cute and such a pretty young lady! She seemed to enjoy posing for the camera and had lots of patience with me.

For the first time, I had an assistant in the studio, Emily’s grandfather, he very kindly attracted her attention with a prop I keep to hand – a singing Eeyore who has ears that clap! Many thanks for your help!

Mum to be - Looking very elegant

Very kindly, this young lady from near Hemel Hempstead, has allowed me to show you these maternity portraits. She’s about 6 or 7 months pregnant and wanted to record this special time and decided to be brave and have a series of nudes. After she arrived, we looked through some example photos so that she could consider the poses that she liked and would be happy with.

The shoot started with some bump shots with some fabric wrapped around her, just below the bump. Then we moved on to a sequence of shots with her lying on the floor in various poses. She was very relaxed and didn’t seem at all nervous about the experience so we the moved on to shoot some silhouettes (which I think make wonderful maternity portraits).

This mum to be has been back to the studio for her viewing and she said she was delighted with the results (many thanks for the order!), she was very easy to work with and as I said earlier very generous, letting me share these pictures with you. Good luck with the birth!

Vinyl white backdrop in action

I recently took delivery of a new white vinyl backdrop which was supplied on a 50mm diameter aluminium pole. This has now been installed in the studio and gives brilliant results with high key photography. I’ve been using it for adult shoots and it saves me lots of post processing time – previously I’d been using white muslin, which had many creases and wrinkles, in comparison, the vinyl is a dream.

Greg and Adam

Opening hours at the Studio are pretty flexible, usually 9am – 6pm, 7 days a week. Last evening I had a late shoot , an 8pm start. If you are interested in a shoot and need an early or late shoot, just let me know.

Mum, dad and their two boys, Adam and Greg, arrived from Watford. For mum’s birthday, Adam and Greg had agreed to pose for portraits, they were in their early twenties and it had been many many years since they last visited a studio!

We started with the group shot, with the two young men taking direction very well and not seeming to mind too much. After a change of shirts we then moved on to individual poses by which point both Greg and Adam had mastered posing and quickly titled their heads positioned there arms and shoulders for each set of shots. Mum and dad watched intently and glanced over at the monitor to see the shots appear on the screen (I shoot tethered where images are downloaded from the camera straight onto a computer – this allows me to accurately and quickly check exposure, lighting etc).
