Earlier this month, I posted an article on the blog letting you know that I’d become a member of the SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers). Since then, I’ve applied for their first level of qualification which is Licentiate. Today I’m very pleased to announce that the panel of 3 very senior and well respected photographers have examined my application, which included 20 recent pieces of work, and have awarded me the Licentiate qualification.
Here are the images that formed my application:

Autumn is a wonderful time of the year for an outdoor / on-location, photo shoot. The vivid colours of the trees make the most amazing backdrops on which to have your portraits. No it’s not such fun when the rain is pooring, but on a dry, crisp day, the children can have lots of fun running around, kicking leaves and of course playing with sticks.
Here are a few shots taken at the woods in the Ashridge estate very recently.
Give me a call if you would like to go out, have some fun and to make some family portraits of your own! 01442 870005

A lovely confident couple with their beautiful twin baby girls travelled over from Harpenden for their Family Portrait. David and Alex were very organised and made looking after two their two young daughters seem like a breeze!
We started of the studio session with some passport photos for each of the girls, they needed UK and USA specification images, when they were done and mum and dad had made their selections we moved on to the portrait shots.
Here are a few images from the shoot.

Stuart and Donna returned to the studio yesterday for a few more pictures (we ran out of time at the last session). I’m sure Luka, their son, had grown since I last saw him a couple of weeks ago! Here are a few shots from the shoot.

There are lots of reasons to visit a photography studio but here I present the top 5 (from my experience):
- Recording the stages of a baby growing up.
When your new family member arrives, life flies by amazingly quickly and they grow and change almost daily, especially in the first year. That’s why so many people chose to visit the studio at least a couple of times before baby’s first birthday.
- Family portrait to give to grandparents on a birthday.
Giving a family portrait to your mum on her birthday is really special. Even though you probably don’t live with your parents now, they can still have a wonderful reminder of you and your children to look at every day.
- Portraits of children to give as presents.
Having a stunning photograph of your children to give as a Christmas present to close relatives is a favourite with many families. Another is for a father to bring his children to the studio so that he can get a wonderful surprise portrait to give to his wife on her birthday.
- As a way of remembering a special Wedding anniversary.
Many happy couples like to celebrate the anniversary of their special day with a picture for the wall. It brings back memories each time they look at it, not only of their Wedding day but also of the events that have filled their lives since.
- To use vouchers that were received as a gift.
Studio vouchers make great Christening presents, birthday presents or Christmas gifts, the person buying the voucher knows that they are giving a wonderful and fun experience to their friend or relative and that they will receive images that can be looked at for years to come. Portraits are an excellent gift and vouchers are an easy way of giving one.

I’ve taken the plunge and become a member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP). It provides a members directory for people searching for photographers in their area and to members it offers a most comprehensive range of educational seminars by inspirational speakers. So I’ll be doing more courses and progressing on the path of continuous improvement to deliver you the best possible experience and images.
